Approximately 3.5 Hours
The Half-Day Internalization Ladder™ Institute introduces educators to the framework and provides guided opportunities to apply its essential components to their own instructional materials.
Participants explore the difference between lesson planning and lesson internalization and learn how to move from understanding a standard to identifying what students must know, understand, and do. Through facilitated modeling and collaborative practice, educators examine cognitive demand, make expert thinking visible, plan for direct and explicit instruction, and consider how evidence of learning informs instructional decisions.
Participants should bring an upcoming standard, curriculum materials, and Teacher’s Edition or instructional resources so they can begin applying the process to authentic classroom instruction.
Participants will:
Understand the purpose and progression of The Internalization Ladder™
Unpack standards for knowledge, skills, and cognitive demand
Connect learning targets and success criteria to intended mastery
Examine how expert thinking becomes visible through direct and explicit instruction
Plan purposeful guided practice
Identify meaningful evidence of student learning
Begin applying the Ladder to an upcoming lesson
Best for: schoolwide introductions, professional learning days, grade-level teams, PLCs, and teams beginning their internalization journey.
